Update on Rebuilding After the Flood

After talking with people who have been affected by the Flood of 2010, some of the displaced families’ stories are coming to light.  One of the most heartbreaking images has been of the first two homes on Harpeth View Trail, completely consumed by flood waters.  The Lee family have reportedly been told that they cannot rebuild until the land survey is complete.  The government wants to assess whether their land will flood again, and this assessment reportedly could take anywhere from 1 to 2 years.  As a result, the Lees have purchased another home locally.  The Heathcock family in the yellow home washed away by the flood, which is viewable on You Tube, have moved to Burns and bought a home there.  They reportedly had one mortgage payment left before paying off that lovely yellow home.  Now they have to pay off another mortgage entirely and start completely over.  The family living on Maple Court who suffered extensive damage and who have requested help this Saturday have waited this long for their home to dry and for the government to okay closing up the walls of their home, and finalize the process of coming home again.

Every family who has been displaced a result of the flood has their own story, and have all worked so hard to rebuild their lives.  Many other families beyond the three cited above have their own stories of inner fortitude and true grit.  Thanks to them for sharing their stories, and thanks to everyone in our wonderful town of Kingston Springs for taking the time to help their neighbors.
