Thunderstorms Due this Evening
The National Weather Service has issued two statements regarding a weather pattern that is due to hit our area at around midnight tonight, namely a Special Weather Statement and a Hazardous Weather Outlook. The Special Weather Statement indicates a squall line will bring wind, hail and possible flood like conditions:
“A COLD FRONT IS EXPECTED TO SWEEP ACROSS THE MID STATE TONIGHT AND PRODUCE THE POSSIBILITY FOR A FEW STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS…ESPECIALLY WEST OF INTERSTATE 65. THE MAIN THREAT IS EXPECTED TO BE DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WINDS AND HAIL. IN ADDITION…LOCALLY HEAVY DOWNPOURS MAY CAUSE BRIEF PONDING OF WATER IN LOW LYING AND POORLY DRAINED AREAS.
THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS PLACED WESTERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE IN A SLIGHT RISK AREA FOR SEVERE WEATHER TONIGHT. THE LINE OF STORMS IS EXPECTED TO REACH THE TENNESSEE RIVER VALLEY BY LATE THIS EVENING… THEN PUSH TO THE INTERSTATE 65 CORRIDOR AROUND MIDNIGHT…AND ONTO THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU LATE TONIGHT.”
Although this storm front is expected to sweep through quickly tonight, I’ll post updates here regarding any watches or warnings that may be issued.
Update, 10/17, 9PM: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued and is set to expire at 3AM.
Update, 10/18, 12:40AM: All watches have expired.
